Accident claims life of Selby teenager


A 17-year-old Selby-Area junior  was killed Friday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash near Mound City.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol reported Asiajae Spotted Horse was a passenger in a 2001 Chevrolet pickup driven by Tanner Lesch, 17, of Mound City. Both Lesch and Corey Hart of Mobridge, the driver of the second vehicle were also injured.
The accident was reported at 2:21 p.m. four miles south and one mile east of Mound City. Hart, 40, was driving a 1996 Ford Taurus west on 119th Street approaching the intersection of 307th Avenue. The pickup driven by Lesch was traveling south on 307th Avenue, headed into the same intersection.
The two vehicles collided in the intersection and the pickup rolled onto its top.
Lesch, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected. Spotted Horse, who was a passenger in the pickup, was trapped in the vehicle.
All three were transported to Mobridge Regional Hospital. Spotted Horse was pronounced dead at the hospital. Lesch is being treated for serious injuries. Hart was treated and released.
The investigation continues and charges are pending, according to the Highway Patrol report. No alcohol was believed to be involved.
Other agencies responding were Campbell County Sheriff’s Office, Walworth County Sheriff’s Office, Herreid and Mound City fire departments and Herreid Ambulance.
