Bohle, Begeman, Mendoza named to Class 9A All-State team

Three area seniors, Emmit Bohle and Trevor Begeman of Herreid/Selby Area and Jakways Mendoza of Timber Lake have been named to the Class 9A All-State Football Team.
Bohle was named at the all-state tight end. At 6-foot-5 and 243 pounds, Bohle had 27 catches for 387 yards and five touchdowns. He added four two-point conversions. Twenty-three of his 27 catches went for touchdowns or first downs.
“Because of Emmit’s passion for the game and desire to improve, he made himself into an all-state football player,” said Herreid/Selby Area coach Clayton Randall. “In 10 years of coaching, I haven’t had a kid make a bigger improvement from junior year to senior year. There wasn’t anything Emmit wasn’t willing to do to become a better football player, and as a result, he is a first team all-stater and being recruited by college football programs to continue his career. With Emmit’s work ethic and love for the game, his best days of playing football are ahead of him.”
For his career, Bohle had 32 catches for 438 yards and six touchdowns. As a defensive end, Bohle was also a force with 133 tackles, seven sacks, two forced fumbles, two interceptions and a touchdown.
Begeman earned first team all-state honors as guard. At 6’2”, 243, Begeman paved the way for the Wolverines to rush for 5,843 yards the last three years. He was also stalwart on the defense line, racking up 168 tackles, six sacks, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
“Trevor played center, guard and tight end on offense over the three years that he started,” said Randall. “His footwork on the offensive line is second to none. He worked hard in the weight room to become an all-state caliber player, and as a result, he completely dominated everyone that he lined up against this year. There isn’t a high school football team in the state of South Dakota (11- or 9-man) that Trevor couldn’t make a major contribution towards.”
Mendoza was chosen as all-state linebacker. At 6’0” and 210 pounds, Mendoza had 71.5 tackles, 42 solo tackles, four quarterback sacks, and seven tackles for loss, helping lead the Panthers to a 5-3 regular season, despite having just two home games due to field renovations in Timber Lake.
“Jakways set a big tone for our team with leadership on and off the field,” said Timber Lake coach Jordan Weisbeck. “He flowed very well to the football as well as did a great job of plugging the middle.”
Mendoza’s teammates, senior Sam Bad Warrior and junior Tucker Kraft were named all-state honorable mention, Bad Warrior, 5’9”, 240, as defensive tackles, and Kraft, 6’4”, 215, at defensive end.
“Sam did a great job for us on the line,” said Weisbeck. “He was solid on both sides of the ball and set an example of hard work for our team.”
Bad Warrior had 42 tackles, 23 solo tackles and six sacks this season.
“Tucker is a great athlete that had a breakout year for us,” said Weisbeck. “He put in a lot of time in the offseason and it has paid off for him, greatly.”
Kraft had 61.5, tackles, 41 solo tackles and seven sacks this season. On the offensive side, he was a dominating running back, rushing for 1,379 yards and 24 touchdowns.
