Brian English was a man of the sea, pioneer in commercial fishing


Brian Lee English, 75, of Selby, passed away on May 30, 2015, in Mobridge.
No services will be held. The family will hold a private memorial at a later date. Arrangements are with Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge.
Brian English, son of Lee and Mary (McCornack) English, was born on July 31, 1939, in Klamath Falls, Ore. Brian grew up in Brookings, Ore., where he attended Brookings Harbor High School and later worked as a logger as well as a commercial fisherman. Brian was a pioneer of the commercial fishing industry. He bought his first boat, The Magnet, and the passion for fishing turned into a lifelong career. Many will recall the morning coffee sessions at Sport Haven!
After many years on the sea, Brian discovered his love of the desert and relocated to Denio, Nev. More recently, he relocated to Selby, to spend time with his family and his ever-growing pack of grandchildren.
Brian is survived by his son, Basil English of Salem, Ore.; two daughters, Eve’lng (Tommy) Jordan of Manchester, N.H., and Leah (Scott) Holder of Selby; two brothers, Mark English of Brookings, Ore., and Bill English of Coos Bay, Ore.; one sister, Susan English of Eugene, Ore.; nine grandchildren, Brian L. English II and Kirsten A. English, Allison Jordan, Adam Jordan, Marie Jordan, Allison Friend, Courtney Friend, Dante Holder and Malachi Holder; one great-grandson, Kayden English; and countless cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother.
