Camaros, Mustangs split All-Star basketball games

The motor companies split the games at the Dakota Radio Group All-Star Basketball Games at Mobridge-Pollock High School Gymnasium on Saturday.
The Ford Lady Mustangs beat the Chevy Camaros 59-52 in the opener before the Chevy Camaros came back to beat the Ford Mustangs 77-66 in the boys’ game.
A pair of all-staters led their teams to victory.
Kristie Mettler of Timber Lake used a strong start and an even stronger finish to lead the Lady Mustangs to their win. Mettler scored seven points in the early going as her team jumped out to an 18-6 lead. The Camaros fought back to tie the game at 30-30 at the half. Mettler reentered the game with the Mustangs leading 42-39. She helped put things away by scoring 13 points as the Mustangs finished the game on a 17-12 run.
Mettler finished with a game-high 20 points. Summer Bailey of McIntosh scored 11 points and Caitlin Plenty Chief of Wakpala scored eight.
Shauni Schwartz of Herreid-Selby Area and Hallee Cronin of Potter County led the Camaros with eight points each. Jimmi Lawrence of Cheyenne-Eagle Butte added seven points.
Led by Nate Widow of Dupree, the Camaros hit 10 three-pointers and led all the way for the Camaros’ win. The Camaros hit three treys in the early going and jumped ahead 17-4. The Mustangs worked back to a four-point game midway through the first half, but Widow responded with two three-pointers and the lead jumped right back to 10. The Mustangs cut the lead to three again early in the second half, but the Camaros answered and then kept the lead at or near double digits the rest of the way.
Widow led the Camaros with four three-pointers and 24 points. Tyler Pickner of Tiospaye Topa scored nine points, and Tate Widow of Dupree added six.
Kash Deal of Dupree led the Mustangs with 11 points. Carlin Mellette of Wakpala scored 10, while Zach Geller of Herreid-Selby Area, Nolan Keckler of Cheyenne-Eagle Butte and Daniel Roberts of Mobridge-Pollock scored seven points each.
Pearson Wientjes of Mobridge-Pollock won the slam-dunk contest, while Kellon Lawrence and Callie Lawrence of Timber Lake won the three-point shooting contests.
