Chamber putting a spark back in Crazy Days

–Kelsey Crouse–

Over the past several years the Crazy Days event has withered away, turning into a few stores offering sales hardly worthy of being called an event. The Mobridge Chamber of Commerce wanted to put the spark back into Crazy Days this year Saturday Aug, 3 with games, contest, sidewalk venders and sales.

The day starts at 8:30 a.m. with the Klein Museum flea market. The vendor sale on Main Street starts at 11 a.m.

Then at 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. there is a sidewalk chalk contest on Main Street for kids and adults. The contest will be divided in to three age groups 5 to 7 year olds, 8 to 10 year olds and 11 and up. Each group will have a first, second and third place winners winning cash prize of $25, $10 and $5. The judging will be held at noon.

The fifth annual Quack Crazy Days Duck Races will be held at the Wrangler Inn pool at 10 a.m.

The first 500 people to stop by the Chamber of Commerce table will receive a reusable shopping bag provided by the Mobridge Tribune. Each purchase made at Crazy Days is the possibility to be involved in the Great American Coin Toss. Cashiers will give individuals a wooden coin to be taken to Scherr Howe Event Center at 1 p.m. All participants will flip their coin if the announcer calls heads, then all of the contestants that landed on tales will be eliminated until there is only one individual left.

Kids Fund Day is from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Restless kids can be dropped off or the whole family can cool off in the air conditioned Scherr Howe Event Center. There will be games, movies and concessions. This is a bring your own blanket event. The Chamber is still looking for volunteers for the Kids Fun Day event. If anyone is interested call Haden Bowie at 845-9048.

There will be music and open mic all day along with games and chances to win prizes.

After a long day of shopping and fun, folks can head down to Mobridge Rodeo Grounds for the Demolition Derby at 5 p.m. Concession stands will be open, serving grilled food and beverages. The derby is a four-person, four-team format. Tickets will be sold at the gate, $9 for adults, $4 for children. There will also be a pit pass for $20 which includes going behind the scenes with the cars and their drivers.

Crazy Days will be an all day event. If you would like to set up a vendor’s table call Luann at the Chamber of Commerce, 845-2387 to reserve a space.
