Chamber Tourism Ice Tourney starts Thursday

The community of Mobridge will be welcoming 458 two-man teams to the Annual Chamber of Commerce Tourism Committee Ice Fishing Tournament starting Thursday, Jan. 7 through Saturday, Jan. 9.
The committee has had to make some changes to this year’s event because of the COVID-19 pandemic, which will help to keep member of the Mobridge and surrounding community safe from the spread of the virus.
These changes include:
• Masks are highly recommended for all events held indoors.
• Masks are required for all volunteers and when physical distancing is not feasible.
• Hand sanitizing stations will also be available at all events of the tournament.
• Asking all participating anglers to be checked in by 3 p.m. prior to the rules meeting Friday night. This will allow for an easy flow of traffic that evening.
• Limiting rules meeting and weigh-ins to anglers and volunteers only at Scherr-Howe Event Center.
• Only one angler will be required at the launch on Saturday morning and weigh-ins will be limited to anglers only. Masks are highly recommended at the weigh ins and temperatures will be checked for those entering the building.
• Temperature checks for entry into Scherr-Howe every time anglers enter.
• Setting aside proportionate share of “stage” prizes set aside for drawings for those teams who chose not to attend because of the COVID-19 situation. These anglers will keep their guaranteed spot.
• Lottery winners who choose not to attend can either ask for a refund of registration, or receive tumblers and T-shirts, and will be included in drawing for the proportionate share of “stage” prizes.
The committee also decided,for the 2021 tournament only, to shift fishing boundaries to the north point of Shaw Creek straight across to the west. This will allow for more fishable ice and less congestion along the shoreline of the former boundaries.
The two large prize packages for the annual raffle include the number one package of a Ranger XP 900 side-by-side, a clam fish house, a Vexilar FL-20 and a Strikemaster auger. Prize package two includes a Honda Ranger and $1,000 in accessories.
Many national and local sponsors have donated prizes for the annual tournament including Garmin Livescope, Clam Ice Shacks, Vexilar, Hub Ice houses, Scheels, Wrangler Hotel, MoRest Motel, Runnings, and many more.
The tournament begins on Thursday, Jan. 7 with the Fishing Expo held at Scherr Howe Event Center from 3 until 7 p.m. and on Friday from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.
On Thursday at 7 p.m. a panel of fishing experts including national known angler Jason Mitchel and local experts Kerry Donald and Brent Kemnitz will be presenting information and answering questions. There will also be vendors and attendees will have chances to win prizes.The Expo is open to the public.
The rules meeting will begin at 5 p.m. on Friday with doors opening at 5 p.m.
On Saturday, Jan. 9, the launch will be held at Coke Plant on West Grand Crossing at 9 a.m.
Weigh-in will be held at Beadle Chevrolet, from 4 p.m. unit 7 p.m., on West Highway 12,
Teams with no fish to be weighed, should check-in at vehicle by Coke Plant.
Prizes and winners will be announced at Scherr-Howe Events Center starting at 6 p.m.
