Charlotte Otterberg service is Friday at UCC

A memorial service for Charlotte Otterberg, 96, of Mobridge, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 2, 2015, at United Congregational Church under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge.
Burial will be at Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, at a later date.
Charlotte passed away on Sunday, Sept. 27, 2015, at Golden LivingCenter in Mobridge.
She was born on Nov. 8, 1918, in Carson, N.D., to Charles and Ida Pathmann. She attended grade and high school in Carson. Charlotte graduated from the University of North Dakota in 1940. She taught school in North Dakota for several years.
Charlotte married Mitchel Otterberg on Aug. 20, 1943, in the First Presbyterian Church in Chicago, Ill. Mitchel was serving as a officer in the U.S. Navy amphibious forces. Following his discharge at the end of the war, the couple moved to Garrison, N.D., where Mitchel worked as a pharmacist.
In 1947, Charlotte and Mitchel moved to Mobridge where Mitchel worked for Swartz Drug. In 1950, they bought the drug store in McLaughlin. In 1969, they moved from McLaughlin to Mobridge, where she lived until her death.
Charlotte was a lifelong member of Eastern Star and was a past matron of the McLaughlin chapter. She was also a past member of the Grey Ladies Red Cross volunteers. She served as a volunteer news reporter for the Mobridge Care Center and visited residents there for 30 years. It seems only fitting that is where she passed away.
Charlotte loved to read, bake, make jelly and watch the birds and squirrels.
She was preceded in death by Mitchel in 1999, and one brother, Lewellen Pathmann.
She is survived by her son, Michael and daughter-in-law, Margaret, who resided in Fort Peck, Mont.; one sister-in-law, Janice Nelson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials can be directed to the A.H. Brown Library.
