Darlys passed away on Friday, March 13, 2020, at Mobridge Regional Hospital.
Darlys Elaine Hepper was born on Nov. 25, 1946, to Ruth and Elmer Fritz in Mobridge. She had four brothers: Larry, Wayne, Doug and Dave Fritz. Darlys had two sisters: Jacki (Caplinn) Ries and Michelle Caplinn. She lived in Mobridge where she graduated in 1965. After graduation she moved to Montrose, Minn., where she worked for Tonka Toys and stayed with relatives. Later she moved back to Mobridge and worked for Cardinal Plastics.
In 1968 she met the love of her life, Harold Hepper. They were married on Oct. 30, 1971. They moved to Selfridge, N.D., where they raised cattle and farmed. Darlys loved riding horses, planting gardens and hunting with Harold and Dave. Christmas was always her favorite holiday, getting together with relatives and exchanging gifts. She liked to go out dancing and kick up her heels with Harold.
Darlys and Harold had three children: Cheryl, Bryce and Shawn. She was the most loving and nurturing mother one could ever ask for. Her children were her pride and joy and everything in her life.
She fought many battles in life. Darlys lost her sister, Michelle, in 1982. Shortly after that she was diagnosed with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. In 2016, she was diagnosed with stage four cancer, and lost her youngest son, Shawn, soon after that. Darlys was tough as nails, dynamite in a small package and the bravest person we have ever known. Her fight with cancer lasted four and one-half years before the doctors said there was nothing more they could do.
To her kids she was Madre to Harold, she was our Shonta squeezer and to many Lambie Pie.
We are so honored to have her as a mother. We are truly blessed to have had her by our side traveling down this winding road of life. We thank God every day for giving us a mother as special as her. May her love, spirit and guidance follow us the rest of our lives.
Darlys is survived by her husband, Harold Hepper; children, Cheryl Block and Bryce Hepper; brothers, Larry, Doug and Dave Fritz; sister, Jackie Reis and brother-in-law, Ed Reis; grandchildren, Haleigh Hepper, Jaci Stangl, Brayden Block, Tayla, Sawyer, Logan, Shawn and Shane Hepper; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her dad, Elmer Fritz; mom, Ruth Caplinn; brother, Wayne Fritz; and sister, Michelle Caplinn.
