David Utter was happy, giving man


Funeral services for David Utter, 84, of Mobridge, were held Saturday, Dec. 12, 2015, at First Presbyterian Church in McIntosh.
Burial was in McIntosh City Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge.
David passed away on Monday, Dec. 7, 2015, at Mobridge Regional Hospital.
David Carl Utter was born on Oct. 10, 1931, to Ernest and Christine (Moser) Utter at the family farm in McIntosh. He graduated from McIntosh High School in 1950.
David served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954, serving in the Korean War.
After returning home from his military service, he met and later married Alyce Kopp on Nov. 4, 1958, in Raleigh, N.D. They lived in Selfridge, N.D., and later in Mandan, N.D. In 1961 they made their home in McIntosh where they raised their five children until Alyce passed away in 1984. After the loss of his wife, David and his youngest son Corey moved to Mobridge where he resided until his passing.
Throughout David’s life he worked multiple jobs, always willing to help anyone who asked. He was a very loving, happy and giving man who would do anything to help family, friends and neighbors.
One of the highlights of his life was spending time fishing and hunting with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family and friends. Whether it was for advice or just someone to lean on, David was always there for his family.
David will always be remembered for his “happy-go-lucky” attitude and warm, loving smile.
David is survived by his three sons, Byron (Kristi) Utter, Monte Utter, and Jay (Lana) Utter, all of Mobridge; daughter, Jody (Jim) Miller of Isabel; one brother, Kenneth  “Red” Utter of Mobridge; eight grandchildren, Bethany (Aaron) Keller and Lindsey Utter of Sioux Falls, Kasey (Derek) Long of Timber Lake, Tania Utter and Ryan Utter of Mobridge, Alisa (John) Stotz of Gillette, Wyo., Kenya (Lorrin) Lafferty of Isabel, and Krista McGregor of Wilton, N.D.; 11 great-grandchildren, Afton and Reese Keller, Chanel Down Wind, Grant Stotz, Travis, Logan, Riley and Charlie Lafferty, Tyler and Levi McGregor, and Rope Ducheneaux; seven sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law, Lois Utter, Lela Utter, Deloris Utter, Joni Christopherson, Rosie Hersch, Ann Callingwood, Ida and Steve Kautzman, Jim Gerhardt and Bruce Scharmer; close family friend, Nina Goodhouse; and many nieces and nephews.
David was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Alyce; one son, Corey; five brothers, Hugh, Vernon, Robert “Bob”, Miles, and Lynn “Luke”; two sisters, Madeline “Megs” Disrud Mortenston, and Doris “Dori” Utter; and numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
