Doris D. Hanson, 76, of Cottage Grove, Minn., passed away peacefully on July 16, 2017 with her family at her side. Funeral services were held July 22 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Hastings, Minn., with Rev. Frank VanDeSteeg and Rev. Mary Rowan officiating. Interment will be at a later date at Greenwood Cemetery in Mobridge. Doris was born Feb. 21, 1941 to Lawrence and Lorene (Denton) Vance in Dupree. Her family moved to Mobridge at an early age and she worked part time on her family ranch. Doris graduated from Mobridge High School in 1959 and then attended computer training school in Des Moines, Iowa. After her training she started working for the South Dakota Highway Department where she met Burnell Hanson. They married on Oct. 14, 1962 in Mobridge. Burnell’s job moved them to Seattle, Wash., and then to St. Paul, Minn. They settled in Cottage Grove and raised their family. Doris worked for Green Tree Financial in mortgage processing and retired after 13 years of service. She enjoyed cooking, outdoor activities, especially hiking. Doris was involved at her church and loved visiting her grandchildren. She is survived by a loving husband of 54 years, Burnell; a son, Shannon (Christie); granddaughters, Faith and Arin; sister, Cheryl (Robert) Bieber; brother, Gary Vance; and many other relatives and friends. Doris is preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Lorene Vance; sister, Elsie Vance; and sister-in-law Nancy Kay Vance.
