Frances Holzer was rock of family


Mass of Christian Burial for Frances Helen Holzer, 99, of Mobridge, was held on Monday, Oct. 25, 2021, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Mobridge.
Burial was at Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge.
Frances passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2021, at Walworth County Care Center in Selby.
Frances was born on May 20, 1922, to Peter and Rosena (Sahli) Kraft on a farm nine miles north of Bowdle. At the age of 3, she moved to Trail City with her family. She attended Red Top School through the eighth grade. After grade school, she stayed at home to help raise her brothers and sisters and did various jobs for friends and neighbors.
Frances married Valentine Holzer on Feb. 23, 1943, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Trail City. After their marriage, they lived at the John Holzer farm north of Trail City for a short period of time. They bought the Glencross Post Office building and moved it to a farm four miles north of Trail City and farmed there until they moved to Roscoe in 1956 to purchase a junkyard business. In March 1958, the junkyard business was moved to McLaughlin. The family lived in McLaughlin until the fall of 1958 when the decision was made to move back to Trail City to milk cows and farm land located six miles north of Trail City. After retirement, they moved to Mobridge in May 1983.
Frances was the strength and rock of the family. She was always optimistic and looked forward to the spring when it was time to plant flowers and the garden. She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and Altar Society, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and Altar Society, and volunteered with activities at the Mobridge care center. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends, quilting, sewing, gardening, canning, baking, cooking for family, sharing recipes, and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her four daughters, Marcella (Ken) Senger, of Salem, Oregon, Dorothy (Rodney) Senger of Mobridge, Cecilia Holzer of Mobridge, and Shirley (Ted) Schweitzer of Glencross; one sister, Mary Dillman of Walker; two sisters-in-law, Mary Eva Kraft of Holiday, Florida, and Nadine Kraft of Kansas; and one daughter-in-law, Betty Holzer of Mobridge. Also surviving are many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding Frances in death were her parents; husband, Valentine (Sept. 29, 1987); two sons, Jim (Nov. 4, 1974), and DeWayne (Aug. 19, 1984); siblings, Margaret, Eva, Elizabeth, John, Casper, Roy, Leo, Frank, Valentine, Adeline, Peter, Barbara, Agnes, and two baby sisters, Helen and Agnes, who died at birth.
