Gladys Douglas spent her retirement mornings tending her flowers

Gladys A. Douglas, 90, passed from this life into heaven on Feb. 18, 2023, at Mobridge Regional Hospital and Clinics.
A service of remembrance was held on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2023, at the Church of God in Isabel.
Burial was in Hillview Cemetery, Isabel, under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge.
Gladys was born on June 17, 1932, in Corson County, the 12th child of William and Louisa Kern. She attended school up until the eighth grade. Following school, she helped out on the family farm.
She married Marvin Prettyman of Aug. 29, 1954, in Isabel. They bought the Hersch homestead located two miles southeast of Isabel and lived there until Marvin was killed in a farm accident.
She then married Ray Douglas on Feb. 18, 1963.
She loved working on the farm, taking care of the animals and especially liked to ride a good horse. She also enjoyed gardening and raising flowers. They canned many vegetables from their garden. Ray passed away in January 1983.
She was a faithful member of the Church of God. She read her Bible daily and dedicated her life to her Lord and Savior.
Gladys enjoyed being around people and worked in the kitchen at the Isabel school for about 16 years.
She loved to spend her mornings watering and caring for her flowers after her retirement.
She moved from Isabel to Prairie Sunset Village in Mobridge in January 2013 and lived there until her death. She enjoyed living there and quickly made many new friends. She especially enjoyed Bingo and putting puzzles together.
She is survived by her daughter, Cris Douglas of Mobridge; son, Joe (Deb) Douglas of Isabel; grandson, Doug (Erica) Douglas of Spearfish; three great-grandchildren of Spearfish; one sister, Lucy Klingman of Trail City; one sister-in-law, Lorraine Williams of Sturgis; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, and 11 brothers and sisters.
