Herreid-Selby Area drills Stanley County

Herreid-Selby Area took the lead on the opening kickoff and never looked back. The Wolverines raised their record to 3-0 with a 52-0 win over Stanley County in Selby on Friday.
The visitors kicked off to start the game and Nick Larson took the football back 90 yards to the end zone to give the home crowd a reason to roar and the home team a quick 8-0 lead. The Wolverines scored on a Cooper Schaefbauer three-yard run on their next possession to take a 16-0 lead with more than half the first quarter still on the clock.
The Wolverines put the game out of reach with three second-quarter touchdown runs. Dakota Houck got the run started with a 24-yard scoring jaunt. Stanley County held until late when Herreid-Selby Area scored two quick touchdowns late in the quarter. Zach Geller scored the first on a 17-yard run. Larson scored the second from one yard out.
The Wolverines made the second half a short one. Geller gave Herreid-Selby Area a 46-0 lead with an 18-yard touchdown before Austin Iverson ended the game with a one-yard touchdown run.
The Wolverines racked up 313 yards on the ground. It was divided up pretty well as Schaefbauer ran for 106, Geller for 81, Iverson for 69 and Larson for 33.
Stanley County countered with just 46 yards rushing and 41 yards passing. Kennedy Kosters led the Wolverine defense with nine tackles and an interception.
Herreid-Selby Area, ranked fifth in Class 9A, hosts Potter County (3-0 and ranked sixth in 9AA) in the Herreid homecoming at 3 p.m. on Friday. The winner will become the favorite to win the Yellowstone Trail Conference title.
Stanley County, 1-2, will host 0-3 Philip in Ft. Pierre.
