Herreid/Selby Area powers past Ipswich/Edmunds Central

Herreid/Selby Area won a statement game with a 34-16 win over Ipswich/Edmunds Central in Selby on Friday.
In a game that was not decided until the final quarter, the Wolverines put the game away with two touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Herreid/Selby Area held a 20-16 lead after three quarters. Brenden Begeman gave the Wolverines a 26-16 lead when he scored on a four-yard run, his third touchdown of the game, and then Trey Sayler scored on a 28-yard run to put the game away.
“This is as complete of a football game as this group has played in all phases of the game,” said coach Clayton Randall. “We have focused all year on discipline, execution and physicality. We checked all three boxes Friday.”
The Wolverines took a 14-8 lead in the first quarter on a Begeman run and a Tray Hettick to Colton Schumacher pass. Ipswich/Edmunds Central countered with an 88-yard kickoff return by Tyler Hettich.
Begeman scored from 10-yards out in the second quarter to secure a 20-8 halftime lead before Ian Beyers drew Ipswich/Edmunds Central to within 20-16 with a third-quarter touchdown run.
Begeman led the Wolverines with 183 yards rushing and 65 yards receiving to go along with his three touchdowns. Sayler added 106 yards on the ground. Hettick threw of 111 yards.
The Wolverine defense held Ipswich/Edmunds Central to 102 yards offense and forced five turnovers.
Trey Sayler led the defense with 11.5 tackles. Trevor Sayler had 7.5 tackles. Carter Tisdall had an interception and fumble recovery, while Hettick picked off two passes.
The 6-1 Wolverines, up to third in both Class 9B polls and third in power points, can polish off a 7-1 regular season with a win in Mellette on Friday where they will take on the 2-4 Northwestern Wildcats.
