Herreid/Selby Area tops Sully Buttes with late TDs

Herreid/Selby Area scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to defeat rival Sully Buttes 22-8 on Friday in Herreid.

Trailing 8-6 entering the fourth quarter, the Wolverines took the lead when Tray Hettick dropped back and found Carter Tisdall open for a 23-yard touchdown. Brenden Begeman, who ran for 206 yards on the night, put the finishing touch on the win with a 30-yard touchdown run that gave the Wolverines a 22-8 lead.

Both teams scored touchdowns in the first quarter. After Sully Buttes took an early 8-0 lead on a three-yard Landon Hepker run, Herreid/Selby Area got on the board with a 13-yard Hettick to Colton Schumacher touchdown.

Hettick finished 10 of 20 passing for 127 yards and two touchdowns. Schumacher caught seven balls for 88 yards.

Trey Sayler led the defense with nine tackles. Chance Gregg had six tackles and Hunter Friend had 5.5.

With the win, the Wolverines snap a four-game losing streak to the Chargers. The two teams have met 12 times since the Herreid and Selby Area co-op began in 2009. The series is tied at six wins apiece.

The 3-1 Wolverines, ranked honorable mention in both the coaches and media polls, have the week off. Their next game is against another rival as they take on Potter County in Gettysburg on Sept. 25.
