The Lady Wolverines of Herreid/Selby Area are headed to state for the first time since 2013 after beating Kimball/White Lake 3-0 in Pierre on Tuesday in the Class B Sweet 16.
“It’s an awesome night to be a H/SA Wolverine,” said coach Jody Schmidt.
The Wolverines led nearly all the way in a 25-19, 25-17, 25-13 win.
The Wolverines drilled 30 kills in the win. Charlie Tisdall and Maddie Schumacher had 11 kills each, combining to hit 61 of 65. Rachel Fiedler added five kills. Cassie Anderson kept the hitters busy with 23 assists on 88 of 88 hitting. Nicole Ocshner and Micah Schaefbauer led serving with two aces each. Jada Krein and Fiedler led the net defense with two blocks each, while Tisdall and Fiedler led the back-row defense with 16 digs each.
Sara Kunnari led Kimball/White Lake with 10 kills. Sage Pulse had seven kills and Dabry Deffenbaugh had six. Heather Munsen dished 23 assists and led the defense with 13 digs.
The 29-2 Wolverines will be the five seed at the Class B State Volleyball Tournament Nov. 16 through 18 at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center in Rapid City. They will play four seed Hanson (26-2) in the first round.
