Ike Schmaltz dies


Eugene (Ike) Schmaltz, 83, passed away on July 7, 2015, in Everett Wash.
He was born on Nov. 24, 1931, to Jake and Margaret (Bosch) Schmaltz on a farm northwest of Mobridge. He grew up in Mobridge, graduating in 1951. While in high school, he played basketball and was the center for the Tiger team that went to the state tournament in 1950.
After graduation, he joined the Navy and was stationed in Seattle, Wash., where he met his wife, Lyda. After their marriage, they lived in Seattle and Ike worked for Boeing Aircraft Co. until his retirement, then they moved to Everett.
Ike is survived by his wife Lyda, and his children Cindy, Craig, Darrell and Jennifer, all of Washington state. He is also survived by his brother, Ray Schmaltz of Auburn, Wash.
We was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Agnes Mitchell and Betty Lipp, and brothers Will, Ed and Alfred Schmaltz.
His wishes were to be cremated and his ashes scattered in the Pacific Ocean.
