Jansen’s federal trial date moved again

The federal trial for former Walworth County State’s Attorney Christopher Jansen has been moved from October to December.
Jansen has pleaded not guilty to federal charges of sexual exploitation of a child, distribution of material involving the sexual exploitation of minors and possession of child pornography. The federal trail was to begin next month, but court officials have once again granted a continuance and it will now start on Dec. 1.
A sentencing hearing for Jansen, who entered guilty pleas in July to two counts of first degree rape in state court, is scheduled for later this month.
The state charges stem from incidents that occurred at a residence in Hughes County over a four-year period involving three children ranging in age from five to 13. Each count carries a maximum sentence of up to life in the state penitentiary, a $50,000 fine or both and a minimum sentence of 15 years in custody.
Jansen’s sentencing on the state charges is set for Friday, Sept. 25 at 10 a.m. at the Hughes County Courthouse.
