JAY DAVIS: Look who’s back in town


Fans making it to Mobridge-Pollock High School Gym in time for the 2 p.m. Mobridge Rotary Classic game on Saturday will be in for a bit of a nostalgic treat.
When the Herreid-Selby Area girls host Lyman, on the sideline for the Raiders will be first-year head coach Brittany Reuman nee Fuhrman. And yes, that is the same Britt who roamed the floor at Scherr-Howe Arena and is the Lady Tigers’ all-time leading scorer. Reuman lit it up for the Lady Tigers from 2001 to 2006, scoring 1,812 points in her career. She and Lady Tiger rookie coach Lindsey Kramer were starters for the 2006 team that finished second in state their senior year.
After a season-opening loss, the Raiders are on a three-game winning streak.
Herreid-Selby Area is off to a perfect start with four wins in four games. The Wolverines are averaging 64 points a game in wins over McLaughlin, Linton-HMB, Timber Lake and Eureka-Bowdle.
Kramer and her Lady Tigers will take on a program that is new to Mobridge-Pollock at 5 p.m. Mobridge-Pollock is hosting South Border, a school comprised of Wishek and Ashley, N.D. The Mustangs are off to a 5-0 start and fresh off a 38-36 win over Linton-HMB.
The Lady Tigers are looking for their first home win of the season. At 1-3, the Lady Tigers have had just one home game, a 49-36 loss to Aberdeen Roncalli. South Central is the fourth North Dakota team the Lady Tigers have ever played. Along with their long-standing rivalry with Standing Rock, the Lady Tigers have played Linton five times and played Driscoll back in 1978.
The Tigers will square off with a tough customer in the Classic’s nightcap against Little Wound. While the Tigers beat the Mustangs 60-54 last winter, Little Wound is off to a 5-2 start. They just finished third at the LNI in Rapid City and beat Cheyenne-Eagle Butte 79-69 in the third-place game.
The Rotary Classic has a new format this year. Timber Lake will play the first two games, followed by two Herreid-Selby Area games before the Lady Tigers and Tigers finish the hoops extravaganza.
The Timber Lake girls will open the festivities at 11 a.m. against Strasburg-Zeeland, N.D. The Lady Panthers are 2-2 after their overtime win over Faith on Tuesday. The Clippers come to the Bridge City sporting a 4-1 record.
The Timber Lake boys will take on Standing Rock at 12:30 p.m. The 0-3 Panthers look for their first win against a Warriors team that is off to a 2-0 start.
The boys from Herreid-Selby Area and McIntosh will be featured in the 3:30 p.m. game. The Wolverines are 3-1 out of gate. McIntosh is barely out of gate. They have played just one game, a loss to Solen, N.D.
