Former Mobridge pastor Timothy Thompson appeared in Fifth Circuit Court on Monday, Sept. 22, to face charges of sexual contact with a child.

Thompson is being held on $15,000 cash bond and asked that the bond be waived in order for him to join his family outside of the state, according to Walworth County State’s Attorney Jamie Hare. Hare said objected to the request and the Judge Scott Myren refused Thompson’s request.

Hare said Thompson waived his preliminary hearing and will next appear in court on Monday, Oct. 14, to enter his plea, according to Hare.

The charge alleges that Thompson had sexual contact with a child in November of 2008 in Mobridge. The victim, now an adult, reported the incident and the South Dakota Department of Criminal INvestigation investigated the charge in late August.

The DCI investigation led to a warrant for the arrest of Thompson, who was arrested in Denver, where he was living at the time.

He waived extradition and was brought back to South Dakota to face the charges. He is currently being held in the Walworth County jail.

Thompson a native of Phoenix, Ariz., and his wife Patrice and their family moved to Mobridge in April 2008. He served as pastor for the Cornerstone Community Church until 2013.

Thompson, had also taught in area schools and served as principal at McLaughlin Middle School and High School before he moved to Colorado.
