Lady Tiger golf team has high hopes

By Jay Davis

With a wealth of experience, the Lady Tigers enter the golf season with high expectations.
“This is a do or die kind of year,” said coach Jason Weisbeck. “The goal is to place high at the state meet. It’s a realistic goal.”
The foursome of seniors Miranda Eisemann, Chelsy Hoffman and Aundrea Kramer and junior Emily Dale have been together for the last three years. They played together in three state meets and are looking to take the next step and claim some hardware at this year’s State A Golf Tournament.
Eisemann, Hoffman, Kramer and Dale finished seventh at last year’s state tournament, missing a trophy by one place. In 2013, they nabbed the sixth-place award after finishing eighth at the 2012 state tourney.
All four girls finished in the top 40 last year. Hoffman and Dale just missed medaling as they tied for 22nd. Eisemann came in 33rd and Kramer finished 37th.
While Eisemann and Kramer are looking forward to a fourth straight appearance at state, Hoffman and Dale are planning on a fifth straight state tournament. In 2011, Hoffman and Dale played as eighth and seventh graders, respectively.
With the unusually warm spring, the Lady Tigers are raring to go.
“We’ve played more golf this preseason than I can ever remember,” said Weisbeck.
The team’s season opens Thursday at the Stanley County Invitational. One week later, the Lady Tigers travel to Chamberlain to defend their Big Dakota Conference title. They will also be the defending champs when they host the Mobridge-Pollock Invitational on April 20. Along with the BDC, road dates include Madison, Aberdeen, Pierre and Winner.
This spring’s Region 3A Tournament (and pre-region meet) will be in Mitchell. The Girls State A Golf Tournament will be played at Madison Country Club on May 18 and 19.
