Lady Tigers start homecoming week with win over Ipswich

By Jay Davis

The Lady Tigers kicked off homecoming week with a 3-1 win over Ipswich at Mobridge-Pollock High School Gymnasium on Monday.
The win was hard-fought as Ipswich played well enough to force four games, and make the others close. Mobridge-Pollock won 25-20, 25-19, 20-25, 25-21.
The Lady Tigers have been fighting through some injuries and it showed in their play on Monday. With Kady Pinney on the bench with a neck injury and Callie Slater and Ariel Bieber on the court with injuries, the Lady Tigers played inconsistent volleyball at times, but were able to pull together at key times in the match.
“Kady injured her neck on Saturday,” said coach Keri Bolduan. “We tried to play without her. We will see if she is ready to go on Thursday or if we hold her until Saturday. Callie is playing with a sprained pointer finger, which is pretty painful and has affected her setting to the outside more than any place. Ariel injured her ankle and is playing with an ankle brace.”
Alexis Frey took Pinney’s place in the starting lineup and came through with two aces and four kills in the first three sets before Pinney took the court for the last set of the match. Ellie Rabenberg led the Lady Tigers with 13 kills on 28 of 31 hitting. Kayleigh Henderson had an all-around match with 11 kills, eight blocks and four aces. Maranda Wagner and Rabenberg handled the defense in back with 24 and 22 digs, respectively.
Shekota Myer led Ipswich with 13 kills and 25 digs. Ansley Sargent added nine kills and four aces.
The Lady Tigers ripped past McIntosh 25-23, 25-13, 25-9 in McIntosh on Thursday.
Pinney, Rabenberg and Henderson were balanced along the net with eight, seven and six kills respectively. Callie Slater had 16 assists and four aces. Rabenberg and Aundrea Kramer added two aces each.
Shayna Mosbrucker and Jessica Nehl combined for seven kills to lead McIntosh.

The Lady Tigers will put the final stamp on Tiger Homecoming when they host the Central South Dakota Conference volleyball tournament on Saturday. Longtime Central Conference foes Miller, Chamberlain, Faulkton Area, Potter County, Highmore-Harrold and Sully Buttes will be here along with defending state champion Warner.
The tournament starts at 11 a.m. It is single elimination with a consolation bracket and will be played out to all eight places.
“The girls have been having trouble moving and staying ready while on the court and our communication has gotten worse,” said Bolduan. “There is a great chance we’ll see Chamberlain again Saturday. Our goal is to make it to the championship and play a very tough Warner team.”
