Marcie Locken had great smile, giggle


Mass of Christian Burial for Marcie Locken, 26, of Isabel, was held Monday, Nov. 12, 2012, at the Isabel Community Center.
Burial was at Hillsview Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge.
Marcie passed away Nov. 7, 2012, at West River Health Services in Hettinger, N.D.
Marcie Jean Locken was born to Steven and Pam (Alley) Locken on Sept. 12, 1986, in Hettinger. She grew up in Isabel and attended school there, graduating from Isabel High School in 2005. She then attended SDSU in Brookings, earning a BS degree in biology in 2009.
Marcie like to rodeo in her high school and college years, competing for the SDSU college rodeo team. She qualified for the College National Finals Rodeo in 2007. Marcie was the goat-tying champion for the Northwest Cowboys Ranch Association in 2010. Marcie loved working with young athletes and in 2010 coached the McIntosh girls’ volleyball team. She also loved teaching young girls how to goat tie. She was a member of the South Dakota Rodeo Association and was the goat-tying director.
Marcie loved the outdoors and working with horses, livestock and her Border collie dogs. During college Marcie worked for an assisted living center in Brookings, taught Sunday school at St. Thomas More and taught Spanish to first graders.
After college Marcie worked as a lab coordinator at the Faith Community Clinic and for Locken Farms. Marcie was also an EMT for the Dewey County Ambulance in Isabel. She helped out in the hay field, running equipment. Marcie was a real good hand, with and around the equipment on the farm. She enjoyed brandings, gatherings and team roping. Marcie will always be remembered for her great smile and giggle.
Marcie is survived by her parents, Steve and Pam Locken of Isabel; brother, Joe (Mandy) Locken of Isabel; sister, Cara (Jerry) Lei of Bowman, N.D.; nieces and nephews, Kendyl, Talley, Lexi, Blaise and Blake; and grandparents, Maurice and Madonna Alley of Isabel, grandpa Harold Locken of Isabel, grandma Alice Lutz of Gillette, Wyo.; and special babysitter, Glenna Reich.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandma, Dawn Locken.
Casket bearers were Thyler Nash, Tee Burress, Patrick Maher, John Maher, Deon Dorsey, Chuck Schmidt, Todd Lindskov, Aaron Lindskov, Kade Bollinger, Chad Peterson, Grant Peterson and Colby Porch.
Honorary bearers were Marcie’s rodeo family and anyone who has shared a smile or giggle with Marcie.
