Milton Roebuck worked a wide variety of jobs


Funeral services for Milton Roebuck, 85, of Mobridge, were held Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mobridge.
Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge.
Milton passed away Monday, Nov. 19, 2012, at Golden LivingCenter in Mobridge.
Milton Dean Roebuck was born Oct. 15, 1927, to Jake and Dorothy Roebuck and grew up on a farm near Akaska. He was one of eight children; four girls, Elma Perman, Elanor Norton, Dorothy Hawkins and Vereen Faehnrich; and four boys, Milton, Ivan, Earl and Bud Roebuck.
In December of 1950 he was drafted into the service, where he performed many duties, one of which was cook. He was discharged in December of 1952 as Sgt. Milton Roebuck.
On Dec. 7, 1952, he married Jean Swanson. They lived west of the river by Sitting Bull for a year or so and then moved back to Mobridge where Milton worked construction. In the summer they did combining in different states for Oscar Ochsner.
They began their family in June of 1955 when Brenda was born. Arnie came into this world in October of 1956. Tracy was born in September of 1960. They were all born at the Mobridge Hospital.
In 1963 they moved to Sioux Falls where Brenda attended school. They lived on a farm where they milked cows. In February of 1963 John was born and in November of 1964 the last member of the family, Glenn was born.
In 1969 they moved to Timber Lake and lived with Ivan and Lorraine Roebuck until they rented the Dave Opp place and again milked cows. They lived there until 1971 when they moved to a farm southeast of Mobridge and set up their milking operation. In 1983 they moved back into Mobridge.
Some of the jobs they had during their years of marriage were working for the railroad, bartending for the Eagles and Moose clubs, city sanitation, and owning and operating the Twilight Bar in Glenham.
Milton is survived by five children, Brenda Roebuck of Sioux Falls, Arnold (Patty) Roebuck of Glenham, Tracy (Jody) Goetz of Mobridge, John (Cheryl) Roebuck of Wolsey and Glenn (Ruth) Roebuck of Huron; two sisters, Vereen Faehnrich of Mobridge and Dorothy Hawkins of Billings, Mont.; 11 grandchildren, Jesse, Timmy and Jason Roebuck, Jennifer Gorsuch, Jamie Fees, Jacob and James Roebuck, Amy, Teresa and Dallas Roebuck and Cody Holzer; four great-grandchildren, Brady, Tyler, Addison and Piper, and one on the way; and one special little dog, Buster.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jean; two sisters, Elman Perman and Elanor Norton; and three brothers, Ivan, Earl and Bud.
