Mobridge man arrested for aggravated assault

Officers from the Mobridge Police are investigating an incident that occurred Sunday, Oct. 9, in the early morning in which a man from Eureka was seriously injured.

According to the initial report on the incident, officers were called to a home on First Avenue East by a relative of the person who lived at that address. He reported a man had been assaulted and needed assistance. The Mobridge Ambulance Service was called to the scene.

Officers who responded called Police Chief Shawn Madison to the home. He said on Tuesday that an argument that got out of control led to the confrontation in which the victim received life threatening injuries.

“Life saving measures were taken by the first officers on the scene and the EMTs,” Madison said. “The EMTs did a stellar job with all of the chaos at the scene.”
After evaluation of the victim’s injuries, the EMTs on scene reported an airflight ambulance would be needed to transport the victim to a larger medical facility to be treated for his injuries.

Jerald Dean Bleyle, Jr., was arrested at the scene and charged with aggravated assault with intent to cause bodily harm, a Class 3 Felony. The charge carries a possible maximum penalty of 15 years in the penitentiary, a $15,000 fine, or both.

He was transported to the Hughes County Jail.

Bleyle made his first court appearance in Fifth Circuit Court in Selby on Tuesday, Oct. 11. He is currently being held on a $100,000 cash bond. Madison said the charges against Bleyle could be amended if the situation changes.
