More, new events for celebration

New events and old favorites will be a part of the community’s annual fall celebration at the 42st annual Beef ‘N Fun Weekend held in Mobridge Saturday, Sept. 14 and Sunday, Sept. 15.
Each year the Mobridge retail community and other businesses get together with the Mobridge Area Chamber of Commerce to throw an appreciation celebration for their customers. The celebration is anchored by the Wheels Unlimited Classic Car Show, the Pets n Stuff Pet parade, the Harvest Festival at Klein Museum and the beef feed at Scherr-Howe Event Center.
A wide variety of activities, including new to the celebration pony rides, air boat rides and a ranch bronc ride have been added this year.
A popular activity is the dunk tank fundraiser for the Mobridge Rodeo Foundation. Community members who have volunteered to be dunked are Mobridge business woman Jess Brockel, Walworth County Sheriff Josh Boll, Mobridge City Councilman Randy Carlson, Mobridge Rodeo Association members Kevin Holgard and Pat Thorstenson; Mobridge business woman Michelle Sandland; Mobridge Parks and Recreation Manager Ted Ford; and Mobridge Tribune Sports editor Jay Davis.
All proceeds from the dunk tank will benefit the Mobridge Rodeo Foundation.
The dunk tank will be located at Centennial Plaza from noon until 4 p.m.
Another new event will be airboat rides at the Bay from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m.
The Harvest Festival and fundraiser will be held at the Klein Museum with the pork sandwich lunch, prepared by volunteers including Jim Houck, who prepares the pork. The Harvest Festival raises funds for winter expenses. See the story about the festival on page A7 for the details of the events.
The Mobridge Garden Club will be conducting their annual vegetable contest during that time.
The annual beef feed will be held at Scherr-Howe Event Center beginning at 4 p.m. and will be served until 6 p.m.
The fall city-wide rummage sale will also be part of the celebration again this year. Maps of the locations of the sales are available in the Monday, Sept. 2, Reminder or at the office of the Mobridge Tribune and Reminder.
The weekend finishes on Sunday when the Mobridge Fire Department will host their pancake and sausage breakfast fundraiser at the fire hall beginning at 7 a.m. until 1 p.m.
