Myrene Brockel was Mobridge nurse


Myrene F. Brockel, 72, of Bowdle, died Sunday, July 5, 2015, at her home in Bowdle.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 10, 2015, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bowdle.
Interment followed at the church cemetery under the direction of Lien Funeral Home of Bowdle.
Myrene Faye Brandlee, daughter of Evangeline (Stolsmark) and Reuben Brandlee, was born in Bristol on Oct. 6, 1942. She was brought up on the Brandlee farm seven miles north of Bristol and attended country school. She attended Bristol High School, graduating with the Class of 1960.
Myrene married Morgan Brockel at Zion Lutheran Church in Aberdeen on Aug. 8, 1961. They first settled in Aberdeen, later moved to Cudahy, Wis., and then returned to Aberdeen.
Myrene furthered her education at Presentation College in Aberdeen, earning her registered nursing degree in 1981. She then relocated to Mobridge, where she was employed at Mobridge Regional Hospital. In 1997, she moved to Pierre where she was a nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital. A work-related injury prompted her retirement in 2003. She then moved to Bowdle where she lived the rest of her life.
Her hobbies included crocheting, reading, playing bingo, fishing and cooking. Her interest in helping people also led her to be an emergency medical technician (EMT).
Myrene is survived by two sons, Brian (Sarah) Brockel of Glennallen, Alaska, and Jon (Kim) Brockel of Bowdle; two daughters, Sheryl (Ron) Brown and Michelle (Jeff) Oxner, all of Bowdle; stepson, Craig (Carol) Jolly of Spokane, Wash.; two brothers, Rodney (Tammy) Brandlee of Aberdeen and Ray (Joanne) Brandlee of Groton; two sisters, Evonne Wietgrefe of Aberdeen and Renae (Howard) Pender of Audubon, Minn.; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father in August 1995, her mother in April 1995, and her sister (Avis Brockel) in August 1996.
Casket bearers were grandchildren, Dallas Olson of Honolulu, Hawaii, Scott Olson of Anchorage, Alaska, Chris Olson of Aberdeen, Jake Oxner of Fargo, N.D., Justin Brockel and Jessica Brockel of Canon City, Colo., and Breanna Brockel of Bowdle.
Honorary bearers were grandchildren, J.T. Brockel, Howie Oxner, Cooper Oxner and Kara Brockel, as well as great-grandchildren, Parker, Sullivan, Alexander, Kai, Clara, Kaelan, Jaszmyn and Bentley.
