The Mobridge-Pollock Tigers took the first step towards a State A Championship Thursday by defeating Aberdeen Roncalli, 67-52.

The seventh seeded Tigers used a combination of tough defense and offensive power to take defeated the second seeded Cavaliers.

The Tigers jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter and kept the Cavaliers at bay, never relenting that lead. Mobridge-Pollock lead by 11 at the end of the first half, by 15 at the end of the third and kept that lead until the end of the game. The Tigers outscored Roncalli in the third quarter by four and the defense kept the game in hand through the fourth quarter.

Mitch Heumiller led the team in scoring with 26 points followed by Daniel Roberts with 12 and Zack Dockter with 10. Pearson Wientjes led the team with 12 rebounds, giving the edge to the 37 to 29 to the Tigers.

The Tigers will play Madison on Friday night at 7:45 p.m. (MDT) with the winner of that game playing for the championship on Saturday.
