Taylor Gullickson, 29, of Mobridge was sentenced a five-year prison term Tuesday, July 16, after she pleaded guilty to grand theft from a number of retail establishments in Pierre in December 2012.
Judge John Brown suspended the sentence as long as Gullickson successfully completes eight years of probation. He also ordered that Gullickson pay her portion of just over $2040 in restitution.
The Pierre Police Department was alerted on December 10 that Wal-Mart theft prevention employees saw a shopping cart full of items that had not been paid for being taken from the store and the merchandise was loaded into a vehicle. A Highway Patrol trooper later stopped the vehicle near Gettysburg.
Also charged in the case is Jodie Freeman, 49, of McLaughlin. Freeman is charged with one count of grand theft, which is a Class 4 felony, and two counts of possession of stolen property.
Freeman will be arraigned on the charges on August 6.
