Postseason starts with Region 4B in Rapid City

By Jay Davis

The regular season is in the books and postseason is upon the Tiger wrestling team. Mobridge-Pollock will compete in the Region 4B Wrestling Tournament on Saturday at 9 a.m. in the Ice Arena at Rushmore Plaza Civic Center in Rapid City.
“The kids are getting hungry. They’re getting tired of practice,” said coach Spencer Novotny. “When they are going live, you can tell they are ready.”
Novotny said that after a week off, his Tigers are as healthy as they are going to be. Senior Jayson Van Vugt, who injured a foot at Winner, is back on the mats and will compete at the region.
The seeding meeting will not be held until all coaches can convene in Rapid City on Friday evening, so first-round matchups cannot be announced.
Novotny said his wrestlers know who their competition is and who they will have to beat if they want to compete in the State B Wrestling Tournament in Aberdeen on Feb. 22 and 23.
“If we have a strong weekend, we could get as many six advancing,” said Novotny.
Here are the Tiger wrestlers’ records heading into the region: 113: Bray Harrison, 17-21; 120: Jaden Madison, 17-20; 138: Jordan Feist, 8-22; 145: Killian Warner, 5-27; 152: Grant Brewer, 6-17; 160: Austin Borah, 17-20; 170: Jayson Van Vugt, 9-10; 182: David Jensen, 22-9; 195: Chase Schoenhard, 25-8; 220: Brady Spiry, 23-5; 285: Brett Lang 12-14.
