Ruby Hanson was ‘official fan’ of Elvis


Graveside services for Ruby Hanson, 80, of Mesa, Ariz., and formerly of Mobridge, will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2015, at Mound City Cemetery, under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge.
All are welcomed to join the family afterwards to honor and remember Ruby at Bernie’s Bar and Grill in Mound City at 3 p.m.
Ruby passed away on Monday, June 29, 2015, at her home in Mesa.
Ruby Ann Hanson (Mitzel) was born in the family farm in Hague, N.D., on Sept. 6, 1934, to Edward and Martha (Barreth) Mitzel.
She married Willis Ole Hanson at Norway Lutheran Church on June 15, 1953.
She is survived by her four children, Wanda (Jack) Gray, Todd (Lori) Hanson, Scot (Anita) Hanson and Jess Hanson. She was blessed with eight grandchildren: Kelsey, (Wanda); Joshua, Alisha, and Jayden, (Todd), Willis and Zachary, (Scot); and Kellee and Jammee, (Jess). She also had two great-grandchildren, Kara and Logan, (Joshua). Ruby was one of 10 children. Surviving are Gladys Braun, Maxine Vojta, Archie Mitzel, James Mitzel and Dale Mitzel.
Ruby and her husband Willis were successful in business, cattle and ranching in Mound City until his death on March 28, 1963. Ruby was privileged and honored to receive her late husband’s induction award into the South Dakota Auctioneer Hall of Fame in 2008.
Ruby was involved over the years in many charitable organizations. She particularly enjoyed the Women of the Moose and the Red Hat Society. As a longtime “official fan” of Elvis, she loved nothing more than dancing the polka!
Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, Willis; her parents, Edward and Martha; her sisters, Ruth Bollinger and Violet Rossow; and her brothers, Karl and Alex Mitzel.
