Sierra Stotz wins 100-, 200-meter sprint titles

Sierra Stotz of Eureka-Bowdle earned the title of “Class B’s Fastest Girl” after winning the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes at the State B Track and Field Meet in Sioux Falls on Saturday.
The Patriots junior won the 100 by the smallest of margins. Stotz and Kristie Mettler of Timber Lake were side by side until Stotz edged ahead on the final step of the race. Stotz won the title in a time of 12.71 seconds. Mettler ran a 12.72, while Christy Mogck of Scotland came in at 12.73.
Stotz pulled away down the stretch to win the 200. She crossed the line at 26.79 seconds to win her second title. Brittany Olson of Parker was second, nearly two-tenths of a second back at 26.96 seconds.
Stotz ran a 200-meter leg to help the Patriots finish second in the 1600-meter sprint medley relay. Samantha Raile, Leah Wipf and Courtney Weber teamed with Stotz to run a 4:27.58. State champion Castlewood won the race with a dominating 4:20.85.
The Patriots finished tied with Timber Lake for seventh place in team standings with 28 points.
