Standing Rock, Miller beat Lady Tigers

Standing Rock defeated the Lady Tigers 43-24 at Mobridge-Pollock High School Gym on Monday.
Standing Rock went on a 9-0 run late in the first quarter to turn a 5-5 tie into a 14-5 lead. The Lady Tigers outscored the Warriors 12-11 in the second quarter, but still trailed 25-17 at the half. The Warriors took over in the third quarter with an 11-3 run.
The Lady Tigers matched some of the Warriors’ high pace of play, winning the turnover battle, committing 22 and forcing 24, but the Warriors took advantage of turnovers in the backcourt to get easy baskets.
“I’m not too happy about a lot of their points being easy layups,” said coach Lindsey Bachman, “but for the most part we handled their pressure pretty well.”
Warriors forward Keisha Bailey was the difference-maker in the game. Bailey led the Warriors with 19 points and nine rebounds.
“She’s strong,” said Bachman. “She just overpowered us.”
Kya Crow Ghosts scored 13 points. Syanne Young Bird added four points and six boards.
Jestice Talley scored 13 points to lead the Lady Tiger offense, hitting all but two of the team’s field goals. Megan Zahn added seven points. Hannah Stroeder pulled down seven rebounds and Jadin Monsen had five.

Miller
Miller star Kadye Fernholz proved to be the difference in the Rustlers’ 42-20 win over the Lady Tigers at Mobridge-Pollock High School Gym on Thursday.
Fernholz started the game by scoring the first six points. She then scored the last basket of the first quarter and first basket of the second quarter as the Rustlers opened a 12-4 lead.
Trailing 21-8 early in the third quarter, the Lady Tigers went on a 7-1 run to cut the deficit to 22-15, but Fernholz used two steals and an offensive rebound to score six straight points and push the lead to 13 at 28-15. The Lady Tigers were then outscored 14-5 in the fourth quarter.
While Fernholz dominated the game with 22 points and 11 rebounds, Bachman said the Lady Tigers did a good job defending her.
“Except for those two runs, our defense was pretty good,” said Bachman. “Our help defense was good. When she did score it was with two or three defenders hanging all over her.”
Jestice Talley scored a team-leading 10 points for the Lady Tigers. Jadin Monsen and Megan Zahn scored four points each. Talley and Monsen combined for seven rebounds.
