Weisbeck caps career taking fifth at state tournament

Callie Weisbeck tied for fifth place at the Class A Girls State Golf Tournament, held Monday and Tuesday at Spearfish Canyon Country Club.

Mobridge-Pollock graduate Callie Weisbeck put the finishing touch on her high school career by tying for fifth place at the Class A Girls State Golf Tournament, held Monday and Tuesday at Spearfish Canyon Country Club.
“It was a fun couple of days,” said coach and father Jason Weisbeck. “It was great to see how she finished her career. Her endurance was awesome.”
Weisbeck shot 84 on day one and 89 on day two. After day one she was in fifth place and used that endurance to hold off any challengers who had hopes of moving ahead of her. But, she also did not make up any ground on the leaders.
“She never got into that super groove, but she was always right there,” said coach Weisbeck. “The course was physically tough, and it was tough conditions. It was 106 on Tuesday. It was a test of endurance.”
Making it to the top five was one of the goals for the three-time all-stater. She moved up the ranks every year. After taking 61st as a 7th grader and 30th as an 8th grader, Weisbeck medaled in 19th place in 2018 and did it again in 15th place in 2019. Only COVID-19 kept Weisbeck from being a four-time all-state golfer.
Junior Cadee Peltier finished one stroke from medaling. Her two-day total of 196 landed her in a three-way tie for 26th place, while 195 was a tie for 24th. The top 25 and all ties medaled at the state meet.
Coach Weisbeck said that although Peltier was disappointed, she narrowly missed out, the way she played sets the stage for her senior campaign.
“Cadee played awesome,” said Weisbeck, “and she’s hungry for next year.”
Tying for 26th represents a big step for Peltier, who finished 80th as an 8th grader and 75th as a freshman.
For the other three Lady Tigers, their first state tournament was a learning experience. They finished in a cluster with Kylynn Lesmeister tying for 77th, Gabby Zimmer taking 80th and Kayla Blankartz taking 81st.
