Zimoski’s quartet receives honors

A Mobridge man is among the Northern State University students to receive honors recently at the South Dakota Music Teachers Association Conference and Competition in Brookings.
Steven Zimoski was part of the NSU saxophone quartet that placed as a state representative. The group will advance to the West Central Division Competition at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, Jan. 10 through 12, 2014.
Zimoski plays soprano saxophone in the quartet. He is the son of Mike and Carol Zimoski of Mobridge and a 2009 graduate of Mobridge High School.
Other quartet members are Michelle Mennnis of Wahpeton, N.D., baritone saxophone; John N. Patzlaff of Platte, tenor saxophone; and Derek VanDenTop of Canton, alto saxophone. Their instructor is Fred Hemke.
The event included instrumental and vocal competitions for age 10 through the collegiate level, with more than 130 entries.
